Brief overview

Cartago is a wealthy and historic city, with Costa Rica’s largest Basilica at its heart. On the outskirts of this socially conservative city, however, you’ll find a very different quality of life. In Cartago, the majority of our partner organizations exist because there was nobody else taking responsibility for the vulnerable, struggling communities that dot the city’s outskirts.

Though neighborhoods may only be minutes away from one another, the socioeconomic contrasts may be startling. As a CCS volunteer in Costa Rica, you’ll witness firsthand the disparities between communities as you work alongside local organizations to provide those underserved populations with support and care.

When you assist with the care of infants and children in Costa Rica, you’ll find that there are a lot of children who’ve been abused, neglected, or abandoned. Our partner organizations are oftentimes the only places available to offer them shelter, food, and love.

When you improve education for children, you’ll support educators and care takers by helping to teach children in Costa Rica and working to provide primary and pre-primary school level lessons and activities to local children.

A few things you should know:

We're a mission-oriented nonprofit and your fees cover the expenses of your experience. Therefore, your fees may well be tax deductible.

Our track record virtually ensures that you'll have a great experience. This means that you'll return home safe, healthy, satisfied that you made a difference, and invigorated by your connection to a new culture. A 99.5% satisfaction rate kind of speaks for itself, right?

A CCS journey is an experience that's been shaped and improved upon by over 18 years of operation, and 30,000 volunteer adventures. We've kinda got this thing figured out.
