Brief overview

This program is an opportunity to assist local community schools with free classes for women who have not had the chance to partake in education. Needless to say, most of these women come from lower income families and the reason they are uneducated vary from poor financial circumstances when they were young, to an ingrained cultural apathy to female education or their education was cut short due to marriage and family obligations.

Volunteers will help in teaching English, numeracy, and sharing any skills they may have - for example health and hygiene, nutrition, women's health, computer skills, simple first aid using what they have in their house and income generating projects. In the case of skills sharing, the volunteers would work with the teachers, so that the teachers can deliver this information, given the low level of English of some students.

By volunteering in this program, you have the chance to support these women as they strive to better their skills - either for personal achievement and help their children with their homework, or to help with job opportunities and set up small scale income generating activities. These local community schools have very low resources - paper, pens, whiteboard or blackboard. As this program is about women empowering women, we are looking for female applicants over the age of 30 in this program. The minimum duration is 3 weeks.
