Brief overview

NURSES IN ACTION

World Youth International has been working in Kenya since 1992 and has sent thousands of volunteers to live and work in western Kenya.

Each year, WYI sends across dozens of health care professionals to lend a hand to under resourced medical clinics and hospitals. In 2009, WYI launched our first medical camp which provided free medical care and drugs to over 300 people in a community that had no access to medical facilities. The first camp was such an amazing success that WYI committed to running regular camps to other isolated districts on an ongoing basis. With a dedicated focus on community health, WYI is about to open a Level 4 Community Hospital in the village of Odede that will provide subsidized health care to hundreds of people.

Nurses in Action is for health professionals who would like to continue the good work of World Youth International while having a direct impact on a local community. This program will stretch you mentally and physically on a daily basis. This is a direct impact program that is not for the faint hearted! Due to the challenging nature of this program, we can only open it up to skilled professionals who have one of the following qualifications:

  • Allied health professionals
  • Completed 2nd year of Nursing Degree or higher
  • Registered Nurse (all areas)
  • Division 2 Nurse
  • Pharmacist
  • Social Worker
  • Aged Care
  • Qualified Pathologist
  • Qualified Midwife

Accompanied by an Australian trained Team Leader, this program will run over a 1 month period. Your team will work together on a minimum of 2 medical camps, support the community hospital in your specialized field, participate in community health training programs and support our home care program that addresses the needs of the sick and elderly.

  • A three-day orientation and sightseeing program held in Nairobi and Kisumu
